Coolest rooftop bars in the city killer views, sleek looks and winning vibes

From rooftop restaurants to bars with pools and excellent city and mountain views. Including the Cloud 9 nine rooftop bar and pool, the Cartel rooftop bar, Radisson Red’s Red Bus pool and rooftop restaurant in the Silo district and a few special discoveries, like the CBD hideaway with the secret maze. These are some of the most special, hidden and beautiful rooftops around Cape Town.

Hmm. It may not be strictly “rooftop”, but this one’s still worth checking out. A newly extended deck with pool, conveniently on the first floor (making it more accessible) and all-new pool bar with light meals, healthy juices, cocktails (try the Bali-inspired Crushed Coconut Mojito) and more.

Plus: If you really want that view, the newly launched 15 on Orange restaurant with no name looks out over Table Mountain. Discover the new Murano Pool Deck at 15 on Orange Hotel, Autograph Collection.

Named after owner and head chef Heinrich Koen, this inner-city rooftop restaurant and bar is making a name for itself, thanks to their great food and relaxed atmosphere. You’re welcome for a drink in the meantime, but when it’s completed (it should be ready by December 2018), the rooftop will host a tattoo artist, a barber, three bars and a kitchen with breathtaking views of the city. Until then, you can enjoy the vibe from Wednesdays to Saturdays after 4pm. Get all the details about House of H and the Corona cocktail special.

You don’t have to wait for the weekend to enjoy a dip in the lap pool or 360-degree views from the rooftop at Radisson RED. Open Monday to Sunday from 11:30am to 10:30pm, we are sure you can find an excuse to head down to the Silo District at the V&A Waterfront, even if it is to toast to another picturesque Cape Town sunset or admire the iconic Zeitz MOCAA, directly opposite the hotel.

The more grounded option: Say no to vertigo by heading down to the equally cool OUI Bar and Kitchen downstairs, with its bold red booths, industrial-sized space and art dripping off the walls. The bar spills out into the sidewalk, which is directly opposite the Zeitz MOCAA, so you can watch the queues slither away over a cold craft beer (Their Baxter’s Bitching Blonde is exclusive to the hotel) and call it public art.

A brand-new spot has opened up next to Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel & Spa. Charlie, a contemporary bistro and bar, is a hearty spot with a vintage setting and an open kitchen. They offer meals, drinks and a vibe for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with only free-range locally-sourced meats and all meals prepared in-house. Plus the view of Table Mountain from the terrace isn’t half bad.

Considering rooftops for a function specifically? Inner City | Ideas Cartel’s Cartel Rooftop in Waterkant Street comes complete with bar, kitchen and DJ deck for hosting weddings, product launches, shoots, corporate events etc. There’s also an additional lesser known but spectaculr rooftop on the 10th and 11th floors of Cartel House on Loop Street that offers incredible city and mountain views – popular for film and photo shoots. For info on any of these facilities (including an indoor auditorium and more).
